My dishie antennae perk up when I see pieces of Mikasa’s Mediterrania line in my shopping travels.
The patterns are so retro. Many of them show the best of modern style from the 1970s. The shapes are simple and sleek. The colors and motifs just work for me. I think Blue Bird is probably my favorite.
This one goes with my eclectic dinnerware set, though it is hard to find. A lot of it was made, back in the day, as the number of patterns indicates. But that was more than 40 years ago.
The ware holds up well as long as you treat it like dishes should be treated, with moderate care in handling. And, do not put it in the dishwasher because it dulls the finish.
I have found this china in thrift stores, and also from online sources. It is rising to the top of my permanent shopping list.
There are a lot of patterns in this product line. Some of them are:
Mediterrania in Black, Empire Gold, Avocado Green, Espresso Brown, Burnt Orange, Yellow, Pink, Blue and a few others
- Petals
- Rick Rack
- Highland
- Equinox
- Thistle
- Como
- Spanish Moss
- Sarasota
- Tiny Bubbles
The patterns that are based around blue colorways often contain solid-color piece types that would mix and match with Blue Bird, such as cups and bowls.
Blue Bird of happiness, something pretty to add to my vintage dish collection!
